Since May 2020, we have launched a new online seminar series called EUSynBioSeminars, where we invite young researchers from the European synthetic biology community to give short presentations about their most recent publications. The aim is to offer a platform for a wide range of topics related to synthetic biology, accessible to everyone for free upon registration. In February, Iván Domenzain from Jens Nielsen’s lab at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, shared with us his most recent work on the in silico metabolic engineering of yeast cells for the increased production of +100 chemicals.

In January, Markus Schmidt, CEO/Founder of BioFaction, shared with us his most recent work on Biosafety in synthetic biology. Markus has an interdisciplinary background in biomedical engineering, biology and technology assessment and is currently involved in numerous projects that bring together science regulation, responsible research, innovation and art.
2022 was a great year for the EUSynBioS seminars. We hosted 8 seminars on a wide range of fascinating topics relevant to the SynBio community. We covered research on CRISPR and quantification tools, Genome engineering, directed evolution, gene regulation, and biosafety. Overall, we received over 400 registrations from students, postdoctoral researchers, and industry members from across Europe and the rest of the world.

In July’s EUSynBioSeminar, Dr Joanna Sadler, BBSRC Discovery Fellow in Biotechnology at the University of Edinburgh, presents her work on microbial upcycling of waste poly(ethylene terephthalate). Her recent paper, published in Green Chemistry showcases the way to convert plastic bottles into vanillin using an engineered E. coli strain.

In April's EUSynBioSeminar we hosted Dr. Jasmin Hafner from EPFL and EAWAG, Switzerland. In her talk, she presents her work on "Predicting Metabolism to Engineer the Bioproduction of Natural Pharmaceuticals".

In the last EUSynBioSeminar of 2020, we are hosted Dr. Ana Zuniga, postdoctoral researcher at the Centre de Biochimie Structurale in Montpellier, France and Dr. Sarah Guiziou, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Washington, Seattle. They presented their collaboration project titled "Logic circuit in living organism, from design to application" .
In October's EUSynBioSeminar we hosted Dr. Pavel Dvorák from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. In his talk, he introduces his work on "Re-factoring the interior and exterior of Pseudomonas putida for biotechnological processing of lignocellulosic substrates".

In August’s EUSynBioSeminar we hosted Dr. Nico Claassens, Assistant Professor at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Wageningen University. He presented his work titled “A metabolic "xenotransplantation" : Replacing the Calvin Cycle with the Reductive Glycine Pathway in Cupriavidus necator”.
In April, Dr. Morghan Lucas from the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) shared with us a talk titled "Exploring tRNAs and their modifications and crosstalk using Nano-tRNAseq, a nanopore RNA sequencing method"
